Recipe: Shake Up Blackberries, Basil, and Bourbon for a Lively Libation

Welcome to A Drink You Can Actually Make, Eater's first ever recipe series dedicated to simple cocktails from new bars across the country.

Paley seeks to revive old Hollywood glamour to Sunset Boulevard, and the new mid-century stunner is doing just that. Former Church & State chef Greg Bernhardt is behind the plush restaurant's New American, heavily Japanese accented plates, and, unlike most Los Angeles restaurants, you'll need a reservation to get in. As far as drinks are concerned, expect quality spirits paired with fresh ingredients, as found in the tipple below.

Minor Situation
Makes 1

3 blackberries, divided
3 basil leaves, divided
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
3/4 ounce simple syrup or agave nectar
1/2 ounce St-Germain
1 1/2 ounces bourbon

Muddle 2 blackberries and 2 basil leaves in bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add lemon juice, sweetener, St-Germain, bourbon, plus ice, and shake. Strain into a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with a blackberry and basil leaf.
