Shake Shack's Mega-Expansion Plans; Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough Beer

Five things to know today

Happy Tuesday. Today, like every other day, noted chilihead Hillary Clinton will eat a single hot pepper. Clinton's spicy food obsession began as a quest to strengthen her immune system; these days, her hot sauce of choice is one called Ninja Squirrel, which can be purchased at Whole Foods. The more you know.

In today's food news: Details on Shake Shack's mega-expansion plans; New York City's latest Instagram-bait pastry; and more.

— It's no secret Shake Shack is on a mission to conquer the world — but where will its crinkle fries put down roots next? CEO Randy Garutti says the company is eyeing major growth in both urban and suburban Chicago as well as continued expansion on the West Coast; there could eventually be as many as 450 locations in the U.S.

— New York City, land of rainbow bagels, has a new baked good obsession (at least according to Instagram): birthday cake croissants, which are an affront to both birthdays and French patissiers.

— Beer ice cream has definitely been done, but ice cream beer? Ben & Jerry's has teamed up with New Belgium to unveil a very weird-sounding Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ale, slated for release this fall. The duo already collaborated on a Salted Caramel Brownie brown ale, which elicited "Won't someone please think of the children?" cries from alcohol watchdog groups. (Just wait till B&J decide to make a weed ice cream.)

— Nashville's the Catbird Seat just became the latest restaurant to adopt Tock, Chicago restaurateur Nick Kokonas's online ticketing system. Planning a trip to Nashville? Snagging a table just got that much easier.

— There was no Burger King presence in France between 1997 and 2012. (Sacré bleu?) A bizarre new faux-documentary from the fast food chain attempts to tell the story of that dark 15-year period. Here it is in English, but fair warning: You'll never get these seven minutes of your life back.
