Marketing gold
Bronx native and Grammy-nominated rapper Pusha T is probably best known for collaborating on the hit single "Mercy" or, perhaps, his acclaimed 2013 album My Name Is My Name. While he's highly recognized among hip-hop fans, those who don't enjoy the genre might not know of him — or so they thought. Turns out, Pusha is responsible for a tune that millions of Americans can recite on command: the ear worm of a jingle McDonald's has used in this country since 2004.
In an interview with Hot 97's Ebro Darden, Steve Stoute, former record industry executive and current chief executive officer of marketing firm Translation, explained that the rapper, and not superstar producer Pharrell Williams, came up with "I'm Lovin' It."
"You know who wrote that?" Stoute says in the interview. "Pusha T. That's crazy that Pusha T wrote the song for McDonald's."
So the next time you have "ba da ba ba ba" incessantly running through your head, you know who is to blame.
