KFC Is the Mother's Day Destination (Apparently)

It's the chain's best day of the year

Kentucky Fried Chicken has been pulling out all the stops to lure millennials lately, but perhaps the chain should be focusing on their moms. According to data provided by Yum Brands, KFC's best day of business is Mother's Day, and it's not even close. The chain claims to see a 50 percent sales jump on the annual holiday to celebrate Mom.

KFC says it serves approximately 370,000 families each year on Mother's Day. That translates to 1.5 million pounds of chicken, 6.5 million pieces of chicken, 815,000 servings of mashed potatoes and gravy, and 470,000 servings of cole slaw. Apparently the biggest Mother's Day chain chicken cravings are found in the Rust Belt. The cities of Bluefield, Va.; Clarksburg, W. Va.; Erie, Penn.; Topeka, Kan.; and Charleston, Ohio, are where you're most likely to find a dining room full of matriarchs this Sunday.

For those who feel like celebrating Mom at KFC isn't the right move, perhaps surprising your significant other with a white-tablecloth Valentine's Day date hosted by the chain sounds more appealing. Or, you could use those opportunities to cook at home or try a restaurant that maybe doesn't have a drive-thru.
