NBC Sports Grill & Brew Is What Happens When a TV Channel Becomes a Restaurant

The network's first eatery will open in Orlando.

NBC Sports isn't just a television network anymore; soon it will be a restaurant, too. Universal Orlando Resort has announced plans to open the first NBC Sports Grill & Brew this fall.

The massive sports bar, certain to be a destination for bros, will be packed with amenities. Look for a 100-foot-wide high-definition screen and two spotlights at the entrance and nearly 100 HD televisions, airing non-stop sports coverage, throughout the interior. As for the food, it will be prepared on open kettle grills, and more than 100 beers will be available, including one special concoction apparently found only at the restaurant.

Of course, NBC Sports Grill & Brew isn't the first TV channel-turned-sports bar. ESPN, the self-proclaimed "World Wide Leader in Sports," has two ESPN Zone restaurants in Southern California. However, ESPN's dining adventures should serve as a cautionary tale for NBC Sports. At one point, ESPN Zone was a nationwide chain, but most of its locations closed in 2010.
