Girl Scouts Supports Transgender Girls by Returning $100,000 to Bigoted Donor

How about them cookies?

After receiving a jaw-dropping $100,000 donation, the Girl Scouts of Western Washington was overjoyed with the donor's generosity — that is until the organization learned the bizarre stipulation that came along with the money. According to the the Washington Post, the donor demanded a guarantee that the money would not be used to support any transgender girls. So even though the money was enough to send 500 girls to camp and covered nearly a quarter of the organization's annual goal, it decided to returned every cent of the donation.

Megan Ferland, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington, explained to the Seattle Met that the strings attached to the money weren't visible until May, when Caitlyn Jenner began taking over the airwaves. That's when she received the shocking letter from the donor, which stated: "Please guarantee that our gift will not be used to support transgender girls. If you can't, please return the money." So Ferland gave it all back.

After making the tough decision, the Girl Scouts of Western Washington decided not to take the incident lying down. The group formed an Indiegogo page to re-collect the $100,000 it had lost. In just one day, nearly 3,000 people donated to the cause and helped the Girl Scouts surpass its goal, raising a staggering $166,260.
