It'll be five kids against one adult, at least.
The latest addition to the never-ending cavalcade of culinary competition shows will pit kid chefs against grown-ups who cook for a living. Per a press release, "a team of five child cooking prodigies — Cloyce (13), Holden (14), Emmalee (12), Dylan (11), and Estie (7) — will challenge a prolific executive-level chef in the kitchen, where they will defend their culinary abilities."
Competing chefs will include big names like Hubert Keller, Ludo Lefebvre, Mary Sue Milliken, and Top Chef alum Antonia Lofaso; D.C. chef Mike Isabella and a Los Angeles-based private chef named Alia Zaine will serve as judges. Hosting the show is Adam Gertler, who was the runner-up on Season 4 of long-running series The Next Food Network Star.
FYI has ordered 14 one-hour episodes of the show. Here's how each episode will go down:
Each week, a new executive chef will face off against the team of minor masters. The competitors' overall aptitude and areas of expertise will be tested in three dynamic cooking rounds as they're challenged to create a different dish, under unusual circumstances. In the first two rounds, a panel of judges will taste the dishes and determine which chef has created the most delicious and inspired plate. The third and final round is blind tasted and judged by a critically acclaimed master-level chef. The overall winner takes home the ultimate prize of bragging rights.
The success of Masterchef Junior has proven America loves kid chefs, but only time will tell if Man vs. Child will have enough youthful charm and spontaneous crying outbursts to capture the hearts of viewers. Man vs. Child: Chef Showdown debuts Thursday, July 23, at 9 p.m. ET on FYI.
