Cannabis Cafe AmeriCanna Lands $1 Million Investment

Everything's bigger in Texas

Texas is that much closer to getting a cannabis cafe — albeit one that won't actually get you stoned — thanks to a weed company's new infusion of capital. Yesterday, North American Cannabis Holdings announced it had inked a $1 million investment deal to fund its flagship AmeriCanna Cafe in Frisco, near Dallas.

According to a release, the cafe menu menu will include items like hemp-infused coffee, cold-pressed juices, and smoothies. Raw hemp seeds and other hemp-infused foods will also be available.

Customers shouldn't expect to experience any of the side effects typically associated with marijuana, however. The company's CEO has said that the items on offer "will not give you any of the hallucinogenic affects from marijuana," as the seeds will come from a type of cannabis that doesn't contain THC.

Should marijuana become legal in the Lonestar State, expect that to change. According to Cannabis Holdings, THC infused beverages and foods will be added to the menu, "as state and federal law permits." The state has approved a limited medical marijuana bill (dispensaries will soon be able to sell low-THC cannabis products to those suffering from epilepsy), but recreational use is currently unlawful.

The investment into AmeriCanna Cafe is predicated on the company finalizing an acquisition of property, and there's no word on when it will eventually open to the public.

Cannabis-laced foods and beverages have proved trendy in recent years, especially as states have legalized marijuana. Weed vodkaweed K-cups, and cannabis subscription boxes pairing berry-flavored marijuana with macarons are, apparently, all the rage.
