Is watermelon water the new coconut water?
Fresh off blowing minds with the release of her infidelity-themed visual album last month, Beyoncé's latest endeavor involves a beverage company — but strangely enough, it's not lemonade. Rather, Beyoncé is throwing money at a line of cold-pressed watermelon juice: the vowel-less WTRMLN WTR.
"I invested in WTRMLN WTR because it’s the future of clean, natural hydration; as partners, we share a simple mission to deliver accessible wellness to the world," Beyoncé is quoted in a press release. "This is more than an investment in a brand, it’s an investment in female leaders, fitness, American farmers, and the health of people and our planet."
The drink is currently available at retailers such as Whole Foods and Costco (and Amazon), but Beyoncé's backing will surely give it greater visibility: Red Lobster saw a major sales boost after being mentioned in the song "Formation," and the release of Lemonade gave the lemon emoji a whole new meaning (sorry, Rachael Ray). Will the Beyhive latch on to watermelon juice?
