OpenTable Offers Promotion to Help Baltimore Restaurants Recover

The reservations site is offering three times the reward points for booking a table this weekend.

In light of recent events in Baltimore, online reservation site OpenTable is offering a promotion to help bring business to local restaurants. According to the website, users who book a table for this weekend (and honor their reservation) at any of the Baltimore restaurants on OpenTable will receive three times the rewards points. Plus, an additional 200 points will be added to users' accounts by the end of the month. Best of all, you can pay for dinner on your Apple Watch.

Late last month, riots erupted in Baltimore over the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who was arrested by police. The arrest sparked controversy across the city. To quell the chaos, the city implemented a 10 p.m. curfew for residents and local business. However, that caused a financial pinch for many restaurants.

While a spokesperson for OpenTable wouldn't acknowledge that the promotion was directly connected to the recent riots in the city, they did note that the company wanted to do "something in support of the restaurant community," because the businesses have been "hard hit in recent weeks." The spokesperson adds, "Our field team on the ground in Baltimore is acutely aware of how restaurants have been struggling and were really eager to find a way for us to help."
