It's called Save Our Swirled.
Ben & Jerry's newest ice cream flavor is less a cheeky pop culture pun, and more an attempt to save the world. According to the company's website, the flavor is called Save Our Swirled (or SOS for short) and it aims to spread awareness about the brand's climate change campaign of the same name. Ben & Jerry's created the flavor in partnership with Tesla Motors and environmental advocacy group Avaaz. The company hopes it will bring attention to its online petition to convince leaders around the world to act on issues regarding global warming ahead of the upcoming UN climate talks in Paris.
As for the actual ice cream, the Save Our Swirled pints feature raspberry ice cream, marshmallow and raspberry swirls, and mini dark and white fudge ice cream cones "that appear to be melting." The company explains: "Our stance on climate change and our ice cream is one in the same: If it's melted, it's ruined!" The flavor is available in stores and at the company's scoop shops.
This isn't the first time Ben & Jerry's created a flavor to complement a cause. Last September, the company partnered with the 1Love Foundation to honor the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley's iconic Legend album. Proceeds from sales of the Marley-inspired flavor — called Satisfy My Bowl — helped fund a youth empowerment program in Jamaica.
