Jeni's Ice Creams Will Reopen Shops Next Week

They're back, and they're (hopefully) Listeria-free.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is back. The Ohio-based frozen confectionery will re-open its stores by next Friday May 22, in time for Memorial Day weekend, according to a post on the company's blog. Jeni's has expanded rapidly this past year, opening stores in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. The company recalled all of its products and destroyed half a million pounds of ice cream when Listeria was found in a randomly collected sample.

According to the post, "Our kitchen team was elated to be back in action this beautiful morning, making caramel from scratch in preparation for a run of Salty Caramel." The post also mentioned that in order to ramp up production, the company would be working in conjunction with Smith's Dairy in Orrville, Ohio.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has bounced back astoundingly quickly from its voluntary recall of all products last month due to fears of Listeria contamination. The company immediately mounted an all-out P.R. assault, taking responsibility for the problem and communicating frequently with consumers on social media channels. By contrast, Texas-based Blue Bell Ice Cream, which had its own Listeria-related product recall, will not return its products to stores for"several months at minimum."
