There's Now a Hedgehog Cafe in Japan

In case that espresso isn't sharp enough for you

It's a prickly pairing, yet an adorable one: A new dining spot in Tokyo brings together hedgehogs and coffee in the latest edition of animal-themed cafes, according to The Guardian. This particular one is designed to give customers a more cuddly perspective on presumably hard to handle little creatures.

The cafe is called "Harry," a play on the Japanese word for hedgehog, and is situated in Tokyo's entertainment district. Inside, there are dozens of hedgehogs in glass tanks, and guests can spend $9 on weekdays and $12 on holidays to take an hour of their time to get up close and personal with the hedgehogs, albeit carefully.

Japan has long championed the animal cafe concept, with various cafes around the country catering to folks who want to sip their coffee alongside rabbits, birds, snakes, and even penguins. In the U.S., there are a number of coveted cat cafes, a trend that has spread like wildfire across the continent.

These feline friendly establishments have popped up in cities like Montreal, Seattle, San Francisco, and Toronto. There was even a dog cafe "pup-up" in LA, and London has made a name for itself by creating mystical places like the Blobfish Cafe, the London Pignic, and even an owl-themed bar.
