Find somewhere else to eat that Big Mac
McDonald's has opened a store designed to unite hungry people with their McNuggets as soon as humanly possible. According to Business Insider, the company's newest store in Jersey City, New Jersey doesn't have any tables or chairs for patrons to dine on the premises, or even a dining room — only a drive-thru and an outdoor walk-up window.
The average customer is served in just 90 seconds, which is more than twice as fast as the typical McDonald's drive-thru visit in 2015. The chain has taken less drastic measures to speed up service at its other stores, like paring down its drive-thru menus. At the same time, it's complicated things for franchisees and employees by introducing all-day breakfast — but 'round-the-clock Egg McMuffins have proved fruitful for the company, ushering in two consecutive quarters with an increase in sales following a years-long slump.
Will McDonald's roll out its express-service store design to other parts of the country? The company didn't immediately respond to request for comment, but it has been focusing efforts on store redesigns as part of its turnaround plan: It's phasing out the red and yellow design schemes of days gone by in favor of more modern decor, and updating the packaging of its food to match.
