A Strawberry Cocktail Fit for Spring

Welcome to A Drink You Can Actually Make, Eater's first ever recipe series dedicated to simple cocktails from new bars across the country.

Last fall, New York landed a new farmhouse-inspired eatery, Black Barn, with a seasonal New American menu helmed by chef and co-owner John Doherty (formerly of New York's Waldorf Astoria). Matching the restaurant's farm to fork focus is its beverage program, organized by Jay Aiken, which celebrates both local spirits and fresh ingredients. Below Aiken shares a quick strawberry cocktail recipe.

Strawberry Field
Makes 1

1  strawberry
3/4 ounce simple syrup
2 ounces gin, such as The Botanist
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 dried lemon chip (garnish)

Muddle strawberry with simple syrup in a mixing glass. Add remaining ingredients and ice. Stir to combine. Strain mixture into a rocks glass with one large ice cube. Garnish with a dried lemon chip.
