Six things to know today
Super Tuesday is over, happy (regular) Wednesday! In today's decidedly nonpartisan food news: Fancy chefs have a thing for airline food; the movie about McDonald's founder Ray Kroc has a release date; Uber is continuing to expand its food delivery service; and beware the cheese case at Whole Foods.
— Daniel Boulud is the latest chef to make a foray into airline food. Boulud is partnering with Air France for the next year to design meals for first- and business-class. Passengers can expect Moroccan chicken tagine, coconut curry lobster, and vine leaf-wrapped seabass with za'atar, all of which sound worlds better than those tiny bags of pretzels. Once relegated to rubbery chicken and stale dinner rolls, mile-high meals are getting a boost as of late from big names in food such as Danny Meyer and Atlanta chef Linton Hopkins.
— More trouble in the Whole Foods cheese department: The pricey grocery chain is voluntary recalling Maytag blue cheese sold in its stores after routine testing revealed the presence of listeria. No illnesses have been linked to the cheese, but the grocer is being extra-cautious: Several cheeses it carries have been hit with listeria recently, including an imported Pecorino and a Roquefort. Listeria outbreaks have also made life awfully difficult for ice cream companies Blue Bell and Jeni's Splendid in recent months.
— Uber continues its foray into the food delivery sphere: The driver-on-demand app just launched its full-fledged restaurant delivery service, UberDelivery, in Seattle. The company's original food delivery option, UberEats, offers a limited menu of pre-prepared lunch dishes that can be delivered quickly; the expanded UberDelivery model operates more like Seamless or GrubHub and the company plans to roll it out in 10 cities.
— Michael Keaton is preparing for the greasiest role of his life. The one-time Batman will play McDonald's founder Ray Kroc in an upcoming film called The Founder, which is slated to hit theaters August 4. According to Variety, the film was "developed in the vein of The Social Network," the Oscar-winning film about how Facebook got its start, and will also star Parks and Rec's Nick Offerman and The Office's B.J. Novak.
— Attention, lazy caffeine addicts: Nespresso's newest brewer enables you to make coffee remotely via a smartphone app. Of course, you'll still have to refill it with water and load it with a coffee pod — but still.
— And now, a fascinating bit of Super Tuesday trivia: Can your palate predict who you'll vote for?
Fun fact: to date, Trump has won 81% of counties w/ Cracker Barrels. Rubio has won 38% of counties w/ Whole Foods & needs higher tonight.
