A new offering from Postmates could prove useful for food delivery junkies: The popular app that boasts official partnerships with the likes of Chipotle and Starbucks has just unveiled a monthly subscription service à la Amazon Prime, reports Bloomberg.
Called Postmates Plus Unlimited, it costs $9.99 a month and gives users free delivery on orders of $30 or more from Postmates partners, and also waives the 9 percent service fee that's usually assessed on each order.

With this new launch, the delivery app is hoping to inspire Amazon-esque loyalty from its customers: "The great thing about Amazon Prime is it centers everyone's default e-commerce to Amazon ... That's the same thing we're looking to have here. Why use any service but Postmates to get your food delivered?" Postmates co-founder Sean Plaice tells Bloomberg.
The company says the new program will cost it money in the beginning, but over time Postmates "hopes its subscription service will create a virtuous cycle in which customers order more often," as well as potentially luring new businesses to partner with Postmates. As TechCrunch points out, "the subscription model [also] makes Postmates fleet operate more efficiently since there’s a higher density of orders going to certain merchants."
Postmates is also delving into the realm of super-fast food delivery, recently launching Postmates Pop in San Francisco: Rather than the usual delivery time of an hour or less, it promises meal delivery in under 15 minutes — much like the instant delivery option from competitor UberEATS.
