John Kasich Eats Pizza With a Fork, Further Proving He'll Never Be President

New Yorkers are horrified

Politicians are often accused of being hopelessly out of touch with their constituents, insulated from the real problems of the world as they sit up in their ivory towers counting piles of money. And uh, eating pizza with a fork. Presidential hopeful John Kasich was photographed doing the latter at a pizzeria in New York yesterday, Politico reports, and he'll probably never hear the end of it.

Kasich attempted to defend his utensil usage on Good Morning America today, saying, "Look, look, the pizza came scalding hot, OK?" Sure, John. If he can't even hold onto a slice of pizza, how could he possibly stand the heat of foreign relations?

CNN was so struck by Kasich's pizza-eating method that the news organization tweeted a freeform haiku about it:

Former New York Times food critic Mimi Sheraton says what many others are thinking:

But can you really blame the guy? After all, he is the governor of Ohio, a midwestern state that's never been known for its pizza. And he's not the first GOP candidate to get blasted for the way he approaches a pie: In 2011, Donald Trump made headlines for using a fork at a Manhattan pizzeria. (He's originally from Queens, so what's his excuse?)

Perhaps Kasich will fare better a bit closer to home in Chicago, where eating deep-dish pizza with a fork is totally acceptable.
