Great British Bake Off Spawns Spinoff Series, Bake Off: Creme de la Creme

It will feature professional pastry chefs rather than amateurs.

Wildly popular cooking competition series The Great British Bake Off has now given birth to a spinoff: Bake Off: Creme de la Creme will debut on BBC2 sometime next year, reports The Guardian.

Hosted by chef Tom Kerridge, owner of the UK's only two Michelin-starred pub The Hand and Flowers, the show will chronicle 15 teams of three pastry professionals competing against one another in a quest to snag the title of Creme de la Creme. (In contrast, The Great British Bake Off features amateur bakers.) The judging panel will include "Benoit Blin, chef patissier at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons; Cherish Finden, executive pastry chef at the Langham; and Claire Clark MBE, who has twice been named Britain’s best pastry chef."

The Great British Bake Off finale that aired in October was watched by more than 13 million people, making it the BBC's most-watched program of 2015. It's also the BBC's third most popular program in foreign markets; while the competition aspect of the show is riveting, part of its popularity is no doubt due to the fact that it is very, very British in the most delightful way.
