Michelin-Starred Belgian Restaurant In de Wulf to Shutter in December 2016

The restaurant is located in Dranouter, Belgium.

In de Wulf, the Michelin-starred restaurant located in Dranouter, Belgium, will shutter next year. According to De Redactie (translated), 35-year-old chef and owner Kobe Desramualts needs time to "reflect." The chef took over his parents' restaurant 12 years ago at the age of 23. It was a French bistro then. However, just two years after Destramualts took over, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star. Elizabeth on Food notes that this made Desramaults one of the youngest chefs in Belgium to receive the accolade.

Desramaults has no plan to retire, but says he just needs a break. He explains: "For 12 years I have given everything for my restaurant." However, he is unsure of what his plans are after he closes the doors to In de Wulf in December 2016. "I have lots of plans and ideas in life... but I do not have concrete plans." He adds, "There does not always have to be a plan."

Desramaults is known for serving detailed dishes like asparagus with a steamed and smoked egg yolk, and miso foam, and elevated takes on traditional Belgian dishes like stoemp — a plate of mashed potatoes mixed with vegetables. Both dishes were highly praised by Elizabeth Auerbach of Elizabeth on Food in her most recent review. Though In de Wulf is closing, it's still possible to find Desramaults' cooking at the other two restaurants he owns in Ghent — Bistro De Vitrine and a sandwich shop called De Superette.

Desramaults isn't the only lauded chef that plans to close their highly regarded restaurant next year. In September, forager and Danish superstar chef René Redzepi announced that he will shutter his famed Copenhagen restaurant Noma after service New Year's Eve 2016. Redzepi plans to re-open the restaurant in a new location with a "new menu and new mission" in 2017.
