Eataly Dubai Ups the Ante With an All-Truffle Mall Restaurant

It's called the Truffle Restaurant.

The shopping mall food scene usually evokes images of stale pizza slices, heavily salted soft pretzels, and Dairy Queen Blizzards — unless you live in Dubai. According to the National, The Dubai Mall now officially has a truffle restaurant. Located inside Eataly Dubai — Mario Batali's Italian food emporium chain — the restaurant, which is pointedly called the Truffle Restaurant, opens today.

The restaurant, which is permanent, serves dishes ladened with the pricey fungi. Eye on Dubai writes that the restaurant is "dedicated to discovering the Umbrian white truffle," but given that white truffles have a very limited season, it is likely the restaurant will serve black truffles too. Currently on the menu are dishes like organic poached eggs on homemade rustic bread with fontina and shaved white truffles; fresh egg tagliolini with sage sauce, bread crumbs, and shaved white truffles; and risotto topped with — you guessed it — more shaved white truffles. Eataly is partnering with truffle distributor Urbani Tartufi to source the truffles.

London is also home to an all-truffle restaurant. Earlier this year, Harrods — London's swankiest department store — became home the home of an Italian restaurant called Truffles & Friends. The 40-seat truffle emporium serves dishes that feature the luxury good including a fresh truffle- and foie gras-topped burger and burrata with truffle honey and fresh truffle. The menu also features truffle-filled cocktails like the house margarita which is made with truffle salt, truffle honey, and truffle slices.
