Kraft Recalls Cheese Singles for Being a 'Choking Hazard'

Three customers have already choked on the cheese.

Kraft Singles — the iconic individually wrapped plasticky slices of cheese — are being recalled for being a choking hazard. According to a press release, the Kraft Heinz Company is voluntarily recalling select packages of individually wrapped Kraft Singles due to the possibility that a "thin strip of the individual packaging film may remain adhered to the slice" after the wrapper is removed. This remaining wrapper could cause someone to choke. Oops.

USA Today notes that before the recall, Kraft received complaints from 10 customers, three of whom had choked. The cheese slices were shipped to stores across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the Grand Cayman. Customers can return the recalled cheese to the store from which they purchased it for a full refund.

This is the second major recall the company has had this year. In March, Kraft recalled 242,000 cases of its popular packaged macaroni and cheese. Some of the boxes may have contained small pieces of metal. Since then, the company announced that the macaroni and cheese would no longer contain artificial preservatives and synthetic colors. Now if only the company could figure out a way to wrap its cheese slices in rice paper wrappers, they could eliminate this issue completely.
