Joe Paterno Beer Flying Off Shelves; Order Wine Via Text Message

— Pennsylvanians can't get enough of Duquesne Brewing Company's Paterno Legacy Series beer. The brew, which honors late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, hit shelves last week, and the brewery is already preparing for a second run. Paterno Legacy Series was originally available on tap at Duquesne Brewing and at bars, where sales greatly exceeded expectations. Owner Mark Dudash tells ESPN the brewery has already sold "close to a million cans" of the beer.

— An online wine outlet in the U.K. is now taking orders via text message. Naked Wines, which helps to support independent winemakers, lets existing customers order a case of wine by texting the name to the company. The wine then gets added to an order. If the service proves to be a hit, Naked Wines will roll it out for its Australian and United States operations.

— Wine on tap is a craze that's sweeping the nation, and one website is helping oenophiles discover where it's being poured. Try Wine on Tap features an interactive map with nearly 4,000 bars and restaurants serving the beverage. The Los Angeles Times notes the map is crowd-sourced, so it should expand over time.

— A Huntingdon Beach, Calif., microbrewery is getting into the delivery business. Riip Beer is using a truck to take its brews directly to customers' homes because it isn't allowed to sell directly from the brewery. "We thought it would be perfect, like the whole milk man of craft-beer," co-founder Ryan Hopkins told ABC 7 in Los Angeles.

— Grocery store chain Kroger is trying to take advantage of the craft beer movement by installing taps in more of its locations across the country. Two Cincinnati-area Krogers will offer beer on tap starting this fall, following stores in Lexington, Ky.; Memphis, Tenn.; Little Rock, Ark.; Richmond, Va.; and Los Alamos, N.M., all of which added taps in 2015. Locations will sell and fill 32-ounce and 64-ounce growlers for most beers made available.
