Taste Talks Returns; A Barbecue Blow-Out With Francis Mallmann in LA

Plus, all about this year's Mesamérica event.

BROOKLYN & CHICAGO — Taste Talks, the food symposium featuring chefs and food writers from across the country, is back for a third year. This year's Brooklyn-based event takes place from September 11 through 13; the Chicago event happens October 2 through 4. Attendees can pick from tasting events or panel discussions, each priced accordingly. A barbecue (Questlove will spin) is $45; the future food expo is free. This year's theme is "the future of taste," and the event will kick off in Brooklyn with a nighttime dessert party called "Questlove and Dominique Ansel's Sweet Thinking: A Dessert Party." Other participating chefs include Alex Stupak, Daniel Eddy, Joe Sparatta, and Jim Lahey. Tickets are on sale now.

MEXICO CITY — Mesamérica returns to Mexico City for an open mic debate at the Museo Nacional de Antropología. French chef Michel Bras, New York City-based Wylie Dufresne, writer Ruth Reichl, Oaxaca-based Alex Ruiz, and Lara Gilmore of Osteria Francescana will discuss topics including culinary innovation, territory, and creativity. Mexican chef of the moment Enrique Olvera will also host. The event takes place on September 21. More information.

LOS ANGELES — An all-star barbecue is happening at the Hotel Bel-Air on September 9. Wolfgang Puck will host pitmaster Adam Perry Lang and Argentinean fire-starter Francis Mallmann. The dinner takes place on the hotel's green, and the $175 ticket price includes wine pairings. Reservations are taken by phone: (310) 909-1644.
