Plus, beer college and the price of German beer.
— America loves its Fireball: According to user data compiled by the BARTRENDr social drinking app, the cinnamon-flavored whiskey adored by sorority girls everywhere ranked as either the first- or second-favorite liquor of 15 U.S. states. At least it's not Jagermeister?
— Those darned millennials are turning up their noses at vodka in favor of a more hipster-friendly spirit: bourbon. From 2010 to 2014, vodka consumption went down by 2 percent while "whiskey sales rose 2.7 percent, and American bourbon and Tennessee whiskey both climbed nearly 17 percent." Sadly, there's no data available on the correlation between said sales and the tendency for bourbon cocktails to be served in mason jars, aka the favorite drinking vessel of millennials everywhere.
— Ever fantasized about getting a Ph.D in beerology? Well, that's still a frat boy's pipe dream, but a community college in Michigan is now offering a certificate program in Brewing and Distillation Technology. Schoolcraft College is in the process of building out an on-campus brewery, and says it might eventually offer its beer for sale to the public.
— Here's one more way climate change is negatively affecting humans: The price of German beer could soon be on the rise. The Bavarian region of Hallertau is the world's leading hop producer, but the area has recently seen a dramatic increase in heavy rain and hailstorms. The changing weather patterns "could lead to a shortage of hops, driving up the price of beer."
