Taco Bell Launches Delivery in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Dallas

90 cities in the three major regions will be able to order gorditas on demand.

Millions of drunk, hungry people are about to benefit from Taco Bell's new partnership with delivery service DoorDash. Taco Bell is indeed rolling out delivery, according to a release. In May, Yum! Brands hinted at the possibility that KFC and Taco Bell could soon offer delivery. Customers rejoiced at the rumors.

Delivery is available today to Taco Bell fans in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Dallas, Texas — and in a total of 90 cities surrounding each metropolitan area. The partnership with DoorDash — an app based out of Palo Alto — means Taco Bell's delivery options could expand to all of the cities currently serviced by the app, including Silicon Valley, Orange County, Chicago, Washington D.C., New York City, and Boston. This is DoorDash's first national restaurant partnership. The company also delivers food for chains like California Pizza Kitchen and The Counter.

Millennials are both lazy and efficient.

While prices and delivery costs will vary, Taco Bell's whole menu is available for pick-up and delivery. When Taco Bell launched its new mobile app late last year, the possibility of delivery was already on Taco Bell CEO Brian Niccol's mind. He said in a release: "Delivery is yet another example of how we're using technology and innovation to respond to consumers' wants and needs, further evolving the Taco Bell experience for customers... we see a tremendous opportunity to bring the Taco Bell experience to fans where and when they want it most. Taco Bell has always been about value and convenience, and we believe delivery is the next step in catering to today's on-demand culture that's driving consumer behavior."

It's not secret that Taco Bell (and other chains) are focused on giving millennial diners what they want, and what millennials want is convenience. If the widespread notion of having everything on demand is any indication, millennials are, as a group, both lazy and efficient.

The two companies plan to bring delivery to consumers nationwide as soon as possible. Taco Bell's delivery announcement comes just months after Chipotle announced it was partnering with messenger-like delivery app Postmates to offer delivery in select areas; Postmates has since raised an additional $80 million in funding. Restaurant food delivery remains a growth area for many companies, with chains like Starbucks, McDonald's, and more promising delivery. For pizza chains — where delivery has always been on offer — delivery perks keep expanding. Domino's recently introduced an option by which users could order a pizza by tweeting a pizza emoji @Dominos. TL;DR there are still some kinks to work out.
