Parisian Icon Taillevent Expanding With London Brasserie

The restaurant is adapting the menu for the London palate.

Parisian fine-dining institution Taillevent is expanding to the UK. The two-Michelin-starred restaurant is preparing to open a second location of its brasserie offshoot, Les 110 de Taillevent, in London's Cavendish Square, says Bloomberg.

Bloomberg notes that "restaurants from France have had a rough ride in London," but Taillevent is facing the challenge head-on: It's staffing the restaurant with London industry vets, and co-owner Laurent Gardinier tells the paper, "We're bringing French gastronomic food from Paris to here, but we're going to adapt it to what London people like."

Les 110 de Taillevent will offer a whopping 110 wines by the glass, with "prices likely to start at about £5 ($7.80) a glass." He estimates patrons will spend about £70 ($110) per person and about half that for lunch. By comparison, meals at the fine-dining Taillevent in Paris can run upwards of $200 a head.

The original Taillevent in Paris was founded in 1946. It is said to be one of several restaurants that inspired Gusteau's, the fictional restaurant featured in the Pixar film Ratatouille. The London outpost is slated to open later this year.
