1500 specialty food exhibits have done their job

The Summer Fancy Food Show has come to an end—the largest marketplace devoted exclusively to specialty foods has been dismantled and shipped back to where it all came from! The flavors, trends, and new products, however, will now live on as they become featured in the world’s grocery stores, restaurants, and home kitchens.
The Fancy Food Show was first held in 1955. Over the years, it has developed into a leading way for artisans, importers and entrepreneurs to find each other and discover the business relationships that are made when you pair a food idea with a business. Today the Specialty Food Association has more than 3,000 member companies worldwide.
This year’s show featured about 300 first-time exhibitors with products such as vegetable popsicles, tiger nut flour, and more—and products from 50 countries.
At the end of the show, exhibitors had the opportunity to contribute leftover products to City Harvest, the show’s longtime charity of choice. The expectation was that they would have enough specialty chocolate, cheese, olive oil, meats, snacks and more to fill more than six tractor trailers to help supply those in need. And, point of interest, keynote speaker Ted Allen reportedly donated his speaking fee to the cause!
The specialty food industry is responsible for $109 billion in annual sales in the U.S. alone. Top categories are cheese, coffee, cocoa, meat, poultry and seafood. Among the fastest-growing categories are refrigerated pasta and pizza sauces.
