It's opening this winter in the city's Meiji-Jingu Gaien park.
Here are some more details about beloved burger chain Shake Shack's expansion to Tokyo: According to a press release, the restaurant's first-ever Japan location will open in the city's famed Meiji-Jingu Gaien park. The location is inspired by Shake Shack's first restaurant (in New York City's Madison Square Park). This means the Meiji-Jingu Gaien outpost will feature plenty of outdoor seating in the form of an "expansive outdoor patio."
The patio will be built among the park's iconic ginkgo trees and it will also include ping pong tables for guests to use. The gingko trees are a large focus of the upcoming Tokyo location. During construction, the Tokyo Shake Shack will feature an interactive art installation for park visitors and passers-by that "visually celebrates the colorful, seasonal change of the gingko trees."
As for the menu, it will include the usual suspects: Shack burgers, hot dogs, fries, and custards. Like its other locations, Shake Shack's first Tokyo outpost will feature a number of Tokyo-specific menu items made with products from local companies. The Meiji-Jingu Gaien location is slated to open this winter, a little bit sooner than the earlier 2016 projections. It's just the first of many: The chain announced in February that it plans to open an additional nine locations in Japan by 2020.
