Here's what Pope Francis ate during his U.S. tour.
This week's papal visit has been jam packed. Between all the handshaking, speech giving, and blessing Pope Francis worked up an appetite. Here's everything the pontiff ate during his U.S. tour:
— While winging it between Washington D.C., New York, and Philadelphia, the Marin Independent Journal reports that the Pope delegation's in-flight snacks included olive oil sel gris sourdough flatbreads and pecan-cranberry-rosemary pan forte crostinis by San Rafael, California's Rustic Bakery.
— The pontiff dined on dishes like Caprese di Astice e Burrata (Heirloom tomato, house-made Burrata, steamed Maine lobster) and Tutto Tonno (Tuna: tartare, semi carpaccio preserve, Tonnato sauce) as well as baked goods, fruit, frittatas, yogurt, and crepes prepared by chefs Lidia Bastianich (who also cooked for Pope Benedict XVI in 2008) and Angelo Vivolo.
— According to the New York Post, Pope Francis ate lunch on Friday at East Village Argentinian restaurant Buenos Aires, where he dined on lemon-flavored grilled chicken with bread pudding and empanadas. Chef Ismael Alba says he had hoped to serve the Argentinian pontiff steak; however, the Pope is on a strict diet.
Pope Francis is visiting Philly this weekend before flying out on Sunday. Still no word on whether he plans to try any of the city's papally-inspired beers, but he's sure to be well caffeinated.
