Another potential problem facing the chain.
Answering the demands of many loyal customers, McDonald's will finally roll out nationwide all-day breakfast on October 6. The iconic American chain hopes the move will reverse its recent poor fortunes, but another problem may put up a roadblock. Eggs were $1.19 a dozen in April, notes the New York Daily News, but that price has shot up to its current level of $2.57.
The scapegoat for the sharp increase is an all-time-worst outbreak of avian flu, which killed more than 40 million laying chickens by mid-June. Prices are expected to continue rising, and if that happens, McDonald's may have to charge more for its Egg McMuffin and other egg dishes. That would certainly put a damper on the all-day excitement — bad news for McDonald's considering there are other potential issues related to serving breakfast 24 hours a day.
