Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants for 2015, Revealed

Chef Virgilio Martinez's Central in Lima, Peru tops the list for the second year running.

Last night, the winners of this year's roster of Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants — a list organized by S.Pellegrino's The World's 50 Best organization — were revealed at Mexico City's Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso museum of culture and arts.

For the second year in a row, chef Virgilio Martinez's Central in Lima earned the top spot. Rodolfo Guzmán's Boragó in Santiago rose from fifth place last year to second this year, while chef Gastón Acurio's Astrid y Gastón fell from number two to nùmero tres. That pushed chef Alex Atala's D.O.M. in São Paulo, Brazil down to fourth place.

Mexico City's sprightly culinary scene maintained three restaurants among the top 10: Jorge Vallejo's Quintonil rose to fifth place; Enrique Olvera's Pujol fell to number nine; and Biko — from chefs Mikel Alonso, Gerard Bellver, and Bruno Oteizafell — landed at number 10. Both Mexico and Argentina had 10 restaurants on the list.

New honorees include: Osso Carnicería y Salumeria in Lima, Peru (no. 34); Andrés Carne de Res Chia, Columbia (no. 42); Restó, Buenos Aires, Argentina (no. 43); Maximo Bistrot (no. 41), Nicos (no. 47), and Dulce Patria (no. 49) all in Mexico City. Meanwhile, Argentinean chef Francis Mallmann's eponymous restaurant fell off the top 50 this year, as did Mexico City's MeroToro.

The Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award went to 39-year-old Enrique Olvera (Pujol in Mexico City; Cosme in New York City). Chilean chef Rodolfo Guzmán (Boragó) won this year's Chefs' Choice Award. Finally, Astrid Gutsche of Astrid y Gastón in Lima took home Latin America's Best Pastry Chef Award. Find the full list of winners below:
