He was barbecuing when his apartment complex set on fire.
Meet (or well in this case, meat) a true American hero, Fresno, Calif. resident Robert Wright. According to KMPH, he managed to save his family and a huge rack of ribs from his burning apartment building early Tuesday morning. Wright tells the news station that he was barbecuing the ribs, just before 3 a.m., as one does, when he saw a fire break out in his apartment complex.
Wright says he first ran over to his apartment to save his family: "I got my kids first... I [brought] everybody out safely, man." But then he thought about the ribs he had cooking. He rushed back into the building to save his most precious valuables — the barbecued meat. Wright explains: "I didn't want to let my ribs burn and stuff. I take pride in what I do, man. It's like 3 o'clock in the morning. I was hungry man." While Wright is now displaced he was happy to have his dinner ("It was frantic. It was real serious, man. I'm gonna enjoy this barbecue though, man.")
Wright isn't the first person willing to take some major risks for barbecue. Earlier this year, a man robbed Jerome Brown BBQ in Florida. He did not take any cash, however. Instead he walked out with $4,000 worth of chicken, ribs, fries, and wings. Watch Wright tell his story, rack of ribs in hand, below:
