And, the meal-delivery start-up is expanding to the Los Angeles market.
San Francisco-based Din, the meal-delivery service formerly known as Forage, is expanding its horizons to Los Angeles. The start-up has announced $3 million in seed funding and that LA deliveries are now in the works. The ingredients and recipes are from well-known chefs and meant to let customers "cook like a restaurant."
Din offers the recipes with the promise that home cooks will be able to prepare the meals in 20 minutes. For more difficult dishes, Din's in-house chefs pre-make certain components to give customers a boost. The company has partnered with San Fran-based Sidecar, an on-demand service that now carries 80 percent of Din's deliveries. That move reduces 70 percent of the packaging waste per order, according to a press release.
Din has previously partnered with San Francisco restaurants such as Bar Tartine and Tacolicious. Among the first Los Angeles partners for the company are Barrel & Ashes chef Timothy Hollingsworth, who will soon open Otium in LA, and Michael Hung of the forthcoming Beverly Hills Avalon Hotel restaurant Vivian.
