Five stand up shows you can’t miss in Mexico City

Mexico City is not new to stand up comedy, but is not until recently that numerous new artists of this form of entertainment and communication have emerged, gaining incredible acceptance among Mexican and international public. Here are 5 shows you definitely can’t miss.

SIETE MACHOS

Named after a famous Mexican cologne which was said to attract women, Siete Machos is a group of seven comedians: Seven visions of everyday life told with an acid, politically incorrect style. From the point of view of a divorced forty year old man, an introverted kid, an unemployed lawyer, an eccentric, an autis
tic misanthrope and a love soldier.  Talavera, Escalante, Horacio Almada, Fran Hevia, Juan Carlos Covarrubias and Macario Brujo will give you a wide and hilarious view on what being “macho” means in modern Mexican culture.

TIO ROBER Y LOS RUFIANES DE LA HILARIDAD

Writer and comedian Roberto Andrade, better known as “Tio Rober” is already an icon on his own and one of the best comedians in Mexico, yet he has united with three other incredible, unique comedians: Paco Maya, Hector Garcia and Lalo Villar on a show that will make you forget other shows exist. “Tio Rober y los Rufianes de la Hilaridad” which means “Uncle Rober and the Hilarity Ruffians” are found every Friday on Foro Shakespeare at 10:30pm. ALEXIS DE ANDA, Riendo y llorando.

Alexis knows how to laugh about her own tragedies and she has created a show so that you can make fun of her. She has a very acid sense of humour on which she relies to talk about her experiences. You may find her at Cine Tonala, which is a place worth visiting on itself. (Tonala 261, Roma Sur) Every Thursday at 10:00 PM or follow her at @alexisdeonda for more dates.

GON CURIEL

Don Curiel kickstarted his career as a comedian by winning the first Stand Up comedy festival in Mexico. Since then he has been unstoppable, in 2014 he became one of the first comedians of Spanish language to have his own Netflix special. He is also the host of the satiric network show “Ya Ni Llorar Es Bueno”, which airs on saturdays at 11:00pm by Cadena Tres.

RICHIE O’FARRIL 

Ricardo-O-Farrill

Ricardo O’Farrill is one of the best modern mexican culture observants. With his sharp, critic eye he leads with incredible humour a show which criticises the typical customers of himself and his contemporaries, and the stupidities we all commit within society or individually.
