Yahoo Shuts Down Yahoo Food Site

Kerry Diamond's run as EIC of Yahoo Food has come to an end.

This just in: Yahoo Food, one of Yahoo's new digital magazines, is no more.

Back in 2014, Yahoo — once one of the web's fastest growing companies — launched a series of digital magazines. The end goal was to reach a new audience and thereby turn around what had become a flailing brand. Among them was Yahoo Food, a new landing page within the Yahoo universe filled with original and syndicated content (it sometimes included content plucked from the pages of Eater.com). Shortly after launching the digital magazine, Yahoo named NYC-based restaurateur and Cherry Bombe magazine co-founder Kerry Diamond its Editor in Chief.

Earlier this year Yahoo released its earnings for 2015 and by all accounts CEO Marissa Mayer's strategies have not been working. Whispers that Yahoo would have to cut back on some initiatives leaked out into the tech and media worlds. The internet was abuzz with suspected layoffs. Today, finally, official word that Yahoo Food is being killed off. Eater hears Yahoo Food may not be the only digital magazine Yahoo suspends.

Diamond informed content partners this afternoon that the site is being phased out. More info to come if Yahoo makes an official announcement.

Diamond and her Cherry Bombe co-founder Claudia Wu are now at work on a two-book deal with Clarkson Potter.

What's next for Yahoo? That's anyone's guess.
