Two more restaurants snagged a 2-star rating.
Michelin, producer of both tires and fancy restaurant guidebooks, has revealed its 2016 stars for Spain and Portugal. The guide's authors note that this year, the highest number of newcomers hailed from the Andalusia and Catalonia regions of Spain. Eight restaurants including Akelaŕe, Arzak, Azurmendi, El Celler de Can Roca, DiverXO, Martín Berasategui, Quique Dacosta and Sant Pau maintained their three-star status. Coque in Madrid and Zaranda at the Castell Son Claret hotel in Mallorca were also added to this year's two-star category, for a total of 23 two-star restaurants. Additionally, 15 newcomers were awarded a one-star ranking, bringing this year's total to 157 establishments in the guide.
Here is the full list of newly starred restaurants in Spain and Portugal, as well as the current ranking among restaurants with one, two, and three stars (it also includes Bib Gourmands, which is the distinction given to non-fine dining restaurants offering "quality food at a reasonable price"):
