Customer Surprises Waffle House Waitress With $600 Tip

The bill was $24.

A waitress at a Waffle House in Tennessee was shocked by customer's generous $600 tip this week. Lauren Ball says she was working the graveyard shift at 4 a.m. when a customer walked in. "I was ready to go home, I didn't even want to wait on him but I was the only waitress working," she tells WFMY.

As she took care of the patron, they chatted about her plans to take her son on a beach trip. "I told him that we were getting ready to go to the beach the next day and I just spent all my money on Colton's [her son's] birthday party," Ball says. At the end of the meal, the customer paid his $24.29 bill — plus an additional $600 — and walked out the door. Surprised by the tip, the restaurant's cook chased the man down to make sure it wasn't a mistake. "He said, ‘I just like to do things for nice people,'" the waitress says.

This isn't the first time a customer has bestowed a megatip on unsuspecting waitstaff. In August, a server at the House of JuJu in Califorinia received a dose of good karma when an anonymous customer left a $585 tip on their bill for a burger and soda. Meanwhile, the organization TipsForJesus continues to leave generous gratuities for restaurant workers.
