Disney World Is Officially Getting a Jungle Cruise-Themed Restaurant

It is slated to open at the end of the year.

Disney World's rumored Jungle Cruise-themed restaurant is no longer a rumor. In March the Walt Disney World Theme Parks blog noted that a restaurant featuring motifs from the popular Disney attraction would take over the Adventureland Veranda, a space that has been shuttered since 1994. The blog speculated that it would be called Skipper's Cantina and that it may even serve alcohol.

Disney World confirmed last week that there is indeed a a Jungle Cruise-themed restaurant opening but that it is called the Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen. It will serve "World Famous Jungle Cuisine," but there are no details as to what that really entails. There is also no information on whether or not the restaurant will serve booze, something only one other Magic Kingdom restaurant offers.

Disney World notes that the restaurant will have "several unique dining rooms," including a crew mess hall and a "once-hidden secret meeting room of the famed Society of Explorers and Adventurers." As for the servers, they will all be Jungle Cruise Skippers, or the people who lead the Jungle Cruise ride. Skipper Canteen is slated to open at the end of 2015.

Disney World is on a restaurant expansion streak. In June, the theme park announced that The Edison, a restaurant which centers around a "1920s-period electric company," will open in the park next year. The restaurant will have an "industrial gothic" feel and will feature cabaret dancers and contortionists. In addition to The Edison, acclaimed chef Masaharu Morimoto is opening a two-story pan-Asian concept which will serve dishes like dim sum later this year.
