Blue Bell Ice Cream Hits Stores Again on August 31

The comeback is real.

In just 15 days, Blue Bell Creameries' popular ice cream will hit freezer shelves in grocery stores once again. According to a note posted to the company's website, Blue Bell will be in stores again on August 31.

In a new video, Ricky Dickson, Blue Bell's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, appears in a video to describe the company's return in light of the unfortunate and scary listeria outbreak that halted the company's production and forced a very costly recall of all of its products.

"Over the past serveral months we've been working to make our facilities even better, and to ensure everything is safe, wholesome, and the highest quality for you to enjoy... we're back doing what we love: That's making ice cream." Blue Bell's return will happen in five phases, and will include "parts of 15 states." The company was brought to its knees in the past few months, and so its return, as Dickson explains, involves "retracing" its initial expansion plan, starting in Brenham, Texas and expanding outward.

Austin-based KEYE CBS outlined the full roll-out plan: The first of the five phases will include Brenham, Houston and Austin, Texas, areas, as well as Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama, which is where Blue Bell's production is centered.

• Phase Two: North central Texas and southern Oklahoma
• Phase Three: Southwest Texas and central Oklahoma
• Phase Four: The majority of Texas and southern Louisiana.
• Phase Five: Complete the states of Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas and begin distribution in Arkansas, Florida, northern Louisiana and Mississippi. This phase will also include parts of the following states: Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The company's trucks started rolling towards a Texas distributor last week; in just 15 days its ice cream will again grace grocery store shelves. It's a fairly quick return for a company as troubled as Blue Bell Creameries has been this past year. Just four months ago the company recalled all of its products after listeria was discovered in its ice cream. Three deaths were associated with the contaminated products.
