7 New Hangover Cures to Help You Face 2016

From the scientifically-backed to the downright weird.

From hair of the dog to chugging a bottle of water before bed to eating a greasy breakfast, everyone has their own tried-and-true way of trying to remedy a hangover. This year, researchers, entrepreneurs, and scientists have weighed in on hangover cures that claim to keep your head out of the toilet bowl and away from the medicine cabinet. Here now, a list of 2015's newly discovered hangover cures, just in time to (hopefully) stave off any post-New Year's Eve celebration blues courtesy of too much Champagne:

Take a Ride on the Hangover Bus

In New York City, The Hangover Club has created the city's one and only Hangover Bus. Found parked outside some of the city's more popular nightspots, like Bounce Sporting Club, the bus offers boozed-up riders three varieties of pick-me-ups. Ranging from $99 to $169, the Classic Recovery, Super Recovery, and Mega Recovery packages range from 15 to 30 minutes and include IV solutions for rehydration and electrolyte replenishment.

Eat Pears

This accidental discovery came from Australia's science agency, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in partnership with Horticulture Innovation Australia. Its research showed that pears can lower blood alcohol levels and prevent hangovers before they even start. Researchers consuming pears prior to alcohol "significantly reduces" hangover symptoms — specifically, the (in)ability to concentrate.

Drink Less (Duh)

While many up their water intake to reduce the risk of a hangover the morning after throwing back a few cocktails, a team of international researchers conducted a study that showed that water didn't actually help with hangover symptoms. In fact, the study showed that the only factor to reduce the chance of a hangover was consuming less alcohol. Bummer.

"Jailbreaking" Yeast

Scientists at the University of Illinois have genetically engineered strains of polyploid yeast — the type of yeast used to ferment beer and wine — to create a new type of yeast that would reduce the levels of toxic byproduct that cause a hangover. Coming soon to a brewery near you? Here's to hoping.

Drink Vitamin-Infused Vodka

Australian Darryl Tombleson of The Vitamin Alcohol Company has created a vodka that he claims is "infused with anti-hangover vitamins." Called Vitamin Vodka, the spirit is organic and contains unspecified nutrients, making it "the world's first and only vitamin-infused organic vodka." It is also made from the mountain waters of the Hunter Valley and Australian sugarcane before being diamond filtered and distilled 12 times.

Visit a Hangover Clinic

Now there's a whole team of specialists dedicated to making your hangover disappear with the opening of the first hydration hangover clinic in Australia. Patients who visit the dispensary are offered everything from vitamin cocktails to IV drips to help make them feel back to normal. Treatments — which can also include anti-hangover medication — can take up to one hour and cost between $100 to $200. While not quite as cool as boarding a hangover bus, it should do the trick.

Eat a Hangover-Preventing Meat Snack

London-based meat company, Serious Pig, claims to have created a meat that prevents hangovers. How does it do it? According to the company, the meat is "high in protein and contains healthy doses of chili and ginger, which experts agree help ease symptoms associated with hangovers" including nausea. Eat up.
