The World's Best Restaurants; Starbucks Debuts Fancy Snowcones

Five things to know right now

Last night the organization behind the restaurant listicle known as the World's 50 Best descended upon New York City to honor its newest list of the top 50 restaurants across the globe. Stateside, top honorees include New York City's Eleven Madison Park, Estela, and Le Bernardin, plus Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocatino Hills, NY; Chicago's Alinea; and San Francisco's Saison. Of note: Both of Thomas Keller's fine dining restaurants, Per Se and The French Laundry, fell off the list this year. — It's day two of Barbecue Week on Eater. Do catch up on our Barbecue 101 primer, and do not miss the one and true definition of barbecue, at least according to Eater editor Chris Fuhrmeister.

— This morning, Oreo released two new flavors of its Oreo Thins cookies: Lemon and Chocolate. How long until we can have an Oreo Thin birthday cake flavor, though?

— Australia has a knock-off In-N-Out burger spot called, appropriately, Down-N-Out. Unfortunately for die-hard In-N-Out fans down under, this is a pop-up, and it's not even presented by the real California-based burger icon. While In-N-Out does periodically pop up for fans in countries outside of the U.S., Down-N-Out is billing itself as more of an homage to the original.

— Starbucks debuts granitas and, oddly, trifles (a traditional English dessert) at American locations starting today. The granitas make sense, because it's summer and who doesn't want a fancy snowcone? But the trifles, which are made from brownies, scones, whipped cream, and syrup — and are only available after 3 p.m. — sound a lot like a way for the chain to use up leftover pastries.

— A somewhat related statistic: There are more places to buy guns in the United States than there are Starbucks worldwide. There are over 24,000 Starbucks locations across the world and more than 58,000 gun shops in the U.S.
