The chain can't stop growing
Celebrity-backed burger chain Wahlburgers is taking another step toward putting a restaurant on every street in America. Having already announced plans for 100 to 150 new restaurants in the next five years, the Wahlberg bros have doubled down with five new franchise groups. The new deals will result in 30 more outposts across Massachusetts, California, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina, and South Carolina, according to a press release.
Chef Paul Wahlberg is the brains behind the food at Wahlburgers, and his actor brothers Mark and Donnie secured a television deal for the chain. Wahlburgers, the Emmy-nominated reality show that chronicles the trio's dining ventures, has been renewed for at least two more seasons.
"We are on the road to bringing Wahlburgers to a city near you," Mark Wahlberg said in a prepared statement. The brothers launched their chain in 2011 outside of Boston, and expansion has been swift. Before announcing plans in December, the Wahlbergs signed deals for 27 locations in Florida and New York and then quickly revealed 66 more, including 20 in the Middle East. The latest announcement adds Charleston, Charlotte, Atlanta, Cleveland, and Detroit, among others, to Wahlburgers's roster of cities.
While Wahlburgers surely will open a location near you — wherever you are — sometime in the not-too-distant future, it might not be worth a visit. Eater New York critic Robert Sietsema wasn't too impressed with the offerings at the chain's Coney Island restaurant.
