It's "slightly sour and forward-thinking," just like the man himself
Bernie Sanders wasn't the big winner on Super Tuesday, but he got a pretty cool consolation prize courtesy of a Vermont craft brewery. ABC News reports Zero Gravity Brewing released a specialty brew on Tuesday called Bernie Weisse in honor of the Vermont senator.
Made in the style of a Berliner weisse, the beer has a "slightly sour and forward-thinking flavor" according to the can, which is adorned with a plaid shirt and suspender-wearing caricature of the presidential candidate. "We had a huge line out the door in the morning," says brewery employee Matt Wilson. "We sold through about half of it in about an hour." Twenty percent of the proceeds from can sales were donated to HeadCount, a nonprofit that encourages young people to register to vote.
This isn't the first time Sanders has inspired a food or beverage — or been confused with one. Famously liberal ice cream company Ben & Jerry's developed a super limited edition "Bernie's Yearning" flavor to benefit the Sanders' campaign; in New Jersey, a vegan restaurant Wildflower developed a 100 percent vegan Bernie burger (it's actually a hummus wrap). Meanwhile, some followers of the presidential candidate simply prefer to imagine him shouting about broth and carrot juice on Twitter.
