Thai food, chocolate stories, and rules for eating
Today in book deals: Outspoken British restaurant critic, Master Chef judge, and frequent Food Network guest Jay Rayner has signed a deal with Penguin Books to publish The Ten (Food) Commandments with Penguin Books. Proclaiming himself the "culinary Moses," Rayner says the book will include various food commandments for the modern age including "guidance on worshipping leftovers and why you should not mistake food for pharmaceuticals which can cure you of all known diseases, especially cancer," and "thou shalt cook while also not running from the stinkiest of foods even if they smell of death." Rayner also plans to launch a live show to go along with the book that will tour throughout the UK. The book is now available for pre-order via Rayner's website.
Kris Yenbamroong, the chef and owner of Los Angeles's Night + Market, is set to publish his first cookbook. It promises 100 recipes that will enable home cooks to recreate classic Thai dishes without being restricted to totally authentic methods. The book will be published by Clarkson Potter and edited by Francis Lam (who's currently got a smash hit on his hands with Chrissy Teigen's recently released book).
Journalist Megan Giller has her own book in the works, and it's all about chocolate. A Mouthful of Chocolate explores the processes and craft behind chocolate and who the leading artisans are that are at the forefront of specialty chocolate. The behind the bean-to-bar chocolate book will include a primer on how chocolate is made, profiles on chocolate producers, and recipes. Expect the book to hit shelves in 2017.
