Blue Apron Wants to be Your Delivery Person and Sommelier

The company's wine-delivery service is here.

Blue Apron is trying to become the dominant force in the food-delivery game. Already taking ingredients and recipes to customers' doors, the company is now pairing wine with its delivery service. Blue Apron Wine offers monthly deliveries of wines that are "selected to pair with Blue Apron meals and enhance the home cooking experience," according to a press release. CEO and co-founder Matt Salzberg says the move is in response to customer demand.

"Wine pairings have been a top request from our home chefs since we launched," Salzberg says," and we're excited about the opportunity to complement our Blue Apron meals with incredible wines."

The wine deliveries come with six custom 500ml bottles, sized to pair with Blue Apron meals for two. Included with each bottle is a tasting card that features the story of the vineyard, "helpful tasting notes about the wine", and information on how to pair it with Blue Apron menus. The monthly deliveries check in at $65.99, plus tax.

Blue Apron has seen rapid growth this year. In June, the company announced it had raised $135 million in its most recent round of funding, which put its valuation at $2 billion.
