The meal kit trend shows no sign of slowing
Yet another meal kit option has hit the market — this one focuses on plant-based meals. Green Chef has announced the launch a certified-organic, completely vegan meal kit delivery service. According to a release, the new offering comes in addition to the company's existing line-up of "Paleo, gluten-free, vegetarian, omnivore and carnivore meal kits."
Like most meal kits, this one will come with step-by-step recipes and pre-portioned ingredients. The meals are priced at $13.49 per serving and begin shipping June 6.
The meal kit trend has proven immensely popular, with some estimating that there are more than 150 options in the space currently. Earlier this month, The New York Times announced it will be getting into the meal kit delivery business. Amazon, too, will be joining the fray, launching a meal kit delivery with Tyson Foods this Fall. With such a crowded market, many companies are working to differentiate themselves by offering unique options — such as gluten-free or vegetarian kits. Startup Hungry Root, which bills itself as a healthier option, has raised more than $3 million for its gluten-free, all-meals-under-500-calories kits.
