Dine on Top of a 200-Foot-High Ferris Wheel in Paris

Dinner with a view

Diners in Paris will travel to new heights — literally — this week, for a meal served atop the city’s famed 200-foot-high Ferris wheel, Le Grande Roue.

The event is part of the international S.Pellegrino Young Chef competition, in which chefs under the age of 30 will compete to be crowned the 2016 winner. The competition, which saw more than 3,000 entries from 191 countries, has been narrowed down to twenty finalists, all of whom will go on to compete at a two-day Grand Final, held in Milan in October.

Representing France in the competition is young up-and-coming chef Shintaro Awa. Yahoo reports that Awa — whose signature dish is air-cured mackerel with potatoes — will cook alongside Michelin-starred chef and competition mentor Yannick Alléno on May 19, as part of the four-course "Dinner Amongst the Stars" that will be served to diners in the Ferris wheel’s 48 cabins.

Unusual pop-up dining experiences remain popular across the globe, with diners shelling out to be served by German Shepherds, drink lightsaber cocktails, or even dine in the nude. Even Ikea has gotten in on the French pop-up game, with plans to launch a chef-driven pop-up restaurant in Paris's upscale Le Marais neighborhood this summer.
