Kids spotted displaying positive behavior get free McDonald’s ice cream in Wichita Falls, Texas.
These days police aren't seeing many wins in the court of public opinion, but a department in Wichita Falls, Texas is trying to change that by spreading some goodwill in their community — and ice cream. The Times Record News reports that officers are handing out McDonald's ice cream tokens to children spotted being helpful or courteous.
The effort is part of a Crime Stoppers project sponsored by a local McDonald's franchisee Travis Clark. "He wants to support the community and the kids and let our officers be seen in a different light," says officer Joseph Robeson. Clark donated 2,500 free ice cream coupons to the effort. The department hops that the project will help cops begin to foster better relationships with youth in the community. "Building long-term relationships can begin in simple ways," Robeson says.

This isn't the first time police officers have boosted their image with free food. Last December, a traffic cop in Bellevue, Mich. spread the Christmas cheer by handing out restaurant gift cards in lieu of tickets. In another random act of kindness, a pair of police officers in Portland, Oregon helped out a Pizza Hut employee that had been injured in an accident by completing the delivery on his behalf.
