Hate Dining With Kids? Be Sure to Visit This California Restaurant

It's adults only in this dining room.

It's not all that uncommon for a meal out to be interrupted by a loud child. For some diners, it's no big deal. For others, it's a major annoyance. To make sure all of its paying customers — kids typically don't carry cash, you know — enjoy their meals in peace, Old Fisherman's Grotto in Monterey, Calif., has a no-kids-allowed policy for its dining room. A San Francisco radio station took note and asked listeners to vote on the policy, and 57 percent of respondents said it's a bad move.

Explaining the policy, Old Fisherman's Grotto says, "We welcome families with children and we serve many every day, we only ask that they abide by our rules." Of course, those rules are: "No strollers. No high chairs. No booster chairs. Children crying or making loud noises are a distraction to other diners, and as such are not allowed in the dining room." The restaurant instituted the complete policy in 2011, two years after it banned strollers from the dining room.

Old Fisherman's Grotto isn't the only restaurant to label young children as personae non gratae. Earlier this month, an Australian restaurant banned kids under the age of 7.
